gener8tor Founder Series Spotlight: Tyrre Burks, Players Health

This week, we’re featuring Tyrre Burks, Founder and CEO of Players Health, a Minneapolis-based company focused on creating safer and more accessible environments for youth and amateur athletes. What began as an injury management platform has evolved into a broader risk management and insurance solution centered on safety, prevention, and accountability in sports.

Tyrre went through the gener8tor Milwaukee 2015 in Milwaukee, at a time when he was transitioning from a professional sports career into entrepreneurship. The program helped him learn how to tell his story, pitch his business, and pressure test ideas quickly by getting in front of customers and investors earlier than he otherwise would have. He credits gener8tor with creating a supportive environment where learning, iteration, and honest feedback became part of how he built the company.

Today, Players Health supports more than 40,000 sports organizations across the US and has grown into an insurance business that uses safety data to better understand and price risk. The company has raised over $100 million in venture capital, crossed $100 million in gross written premium, and continues to focus on making youth and amateur sports safer for everyone involved.

Founder Insight

  • “What you put into an accelerator is what you’re going to get out. The more you lean in, the more you learn, and the more successful your company can be.”

Founder’s Ask

  • If you have a child playing youth sports, tell their organization, coaches, and administrators about Players Health. Encourage them to think seriously about safety, policies, and protocols, and help spread the word.

Tyrre’s journey shows how lived experience, paired with the right support system, can turn a personal passion into real impact. From an early accelerator cohort to building a company that now protects tens of thousands of sports organizations, his story highlights the long-term value of founders who lean in, keep learning, and stay grounded in their mission as they grow.
