FAQs

What is gBETA?

gBETA is a free, seven-week, pre-accelerator program for companies that are looking to achieve rapid growth and/or raise venture capital. gBETA helps entrepreneurs work in and on their business while also attaining the entrepreneurial mindset needed to be successful.

What is the gener8tor University Research Innovation (URI)?

URI is gener8tor's pipeline for discovering high-potential university technologies and connecting them with accelerators, venture studios, and investors to help turn research into fundable startups.

Who should apply to gBETA URI?

Faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and spinout teams developing IP-based technologies across deep tech, life sciences, AI, robotics, and advanced manufacturing.

Do I need to have a company already formed?

No. Many teams meet URI before forming a company. We help evaluate commercial potential and guide you through the spinout process when you're ready.

How does gener8tor collaborate with my technology transfer office?

gener8tor works in partnership with The University of Alabama to ensure that IP, licensing, and compliance processes align with institutional policies.

What stage of research is a good fit?

Teams with early validation — pilot data, prototypes, working demos, or clear market hypotheses — are best positioned to benefit from the initiative.

Should I be concerned about the protection of my intellectual property if I decide to apply?

We treat all application data as confidential and don't steal ideas. With thousands of applications yearly, many with similar concepts, we don't sign NDAs. Our application doesn't require your "special formula," so only share what you're comfortable with.

What support does gener8tor provide to URI companies?

Market validation, mentorship, investor introductions, pitch preparation, and connections to the gener8tor program best suited for your sector and stage.

What does the application and interview process look like?

To be considered for the program, simply complete the online application. You can apply for multiple programs if you meet the eligibility criteria. After applications close, the director will notify you if you're selected for an interview, which typically involves one or two rounds and a prepared pitch. Once interviews are complete, you'll be informed if you've been chosen.

We also encourage you to sign up for office hours before or after applying to meet with the director and ask any questions.

Do I need to sign a Participation Agreement if selected for gBETA?

Although participation in gBETA is free, all participants are required to sign a participation agreement during the onboarding process.
