gener8tor Founder Series Spotlight: Daniel Rotman, PrettyLitter
In this episode, we’re featuring Daniel Rotman, Founder of PrettyLitter, a health-monitoring cat litter company that changes color to help cat owners identify potential health issues early. What began as an idea developed through an entrepreneurial television program has grown into one of the most recognized brands in the pet industry.
Daniel participated in the gener8tor Milwaukee Accelerator in 2016, a pivotal stage in PrettyLitter’s journey. Through the program, he refined the company’s subscription business model, gained a deeper understanding of unit economics, and built relationships that directly contributed to the company’s growth. The hands-on support, mentor network, and investor introductions provided valuable perspective as the business scaled.
One of Daniel’s biggest takeaways from the accelerator was the importance of fully engaging in the experience. By showing up consistently, building meaningful mentor relationships, and taking advantage of every opportunity available, he was able to recruit key early team members, strengthen fundraising efforts, and develop connections with fellow founders that continue to this day.
Daniel’s insight for founders:
• “Know who you are as a founder, stay focused on your mission, and don't let outside noise or ego distract you from building the company you want to build.”
Daniel’s ask:
• For founders considering an accelerator, show up, engage, and take advantage of every opportunity available. The resources, relationships, and support system are there, but it's up to you to make the most of them.
Daniel’s experience serves as a reminder that successful companies are rarely built in isolation. Founders who stay focused on their mission, remain open to learning, and fully invest in the communities around them often create opportunities that extend far beyond the accelerator itself. PrettyLitter’s growth story highlights the lasting value of mentorship, strong relationships, and intentional execution.
