Building on the Skills You Already Have: A gener8tor Skills Conversation with Bryan Badley
In this episode of our gener8tor Skills Impact Series, Anne Nadel sits down with Bryan Badley, Critical Facilities Engineer at Lunavi based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to talk about how building on existing experience can open the door to an entirely new career path.
Before entering the program, Bryan spent years working in residential and commercial property maintenance. His day to day work involved troubleshooting mechanical issues and ensuring facilities continued running smoothly. Over time, he realized he was especially interested in the technical infrastructure that powers modern buildings and systems.
Through the gener8tor Skills Accelerator, Bryan enrolled in the IT Fundamentals track and earned his CompTIA Tech+ certification. The program helped him connect the hands on problem solving skills he had developed in maintenance with foundational knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure.
By combining his existing mechanical expertise with new technical training, Bryan was able to transition into a role working inside a data center environment as a Critical Facilities Engineer.
A few highlights from the conversation:
• Structured technical training helped reinforce Bryan’s problem solving skills while introducing him to the IT side of infrastructure
• Weekly coaching and connections with peers and guest speakers created accountability and community throughout the program
• The program helped Bryan build confidence and gain clarity about the direction he wanted to take in his career
• Combining hands on maintenance experience with IT training helped open the door to a new role in data center operations
Bryan’s message is simple. The more fully you commit to learning opportunities, the more you gain from them.
