Lightning Rounds FAQ

Everything you need to know before the event. Get the details, prep with confidence, and make every 15 minutes count.

What are Lightning Rounds (LRs)?

Lightning Rounds are curated, 15-minute 1-on-1 meetings between selected startups and insurance partners.

Each meeting is designed to create focused, relevant conversations around business opportunities, partnerships, and strategic collaboration. The goal is to quickly assess alignment and identify opportunities for future discussion.

How do Lightning Rounds work?

Startups and insurance partners first submit a short application form to participate in the event.

Approximately 10 days before the event, insurance partners receive a curated, filterable list of participating startups, including pitch decks and company details. Insurance partners review the list and select the companies they would like to meet. gener8tor then builds personalized meeting schedules based on insurance partner selections and participant availability.

Selected startups and insurance partners participate in a series of focused 15-minute 1-on-1 meetings.

Who typically attends Lightning Rounds events?

Lightning Rounds bring together startup founders and insurance partners looking to explore business, partnership, and strategic collaboration opportunities.

How should I prepare for a Lightning Rounds event?

Have a 5-minute pitch with a slide deck ready to present. The meeting list will be provided ahead of time, allowing you to research the insurance partners and organizations you will be meeting with.

Practice a concise overview of your business and prepare specific questions that can help identify alignment and potential next steps quickly during each meeting.

What should I bring to a Lightning Rounds event?

A pitch deck or executive summary, a notepad and pen for taking quick notes, any relevant marketing collateral, and a positive, open-minded attitude.

How can I make the most of my time during each meeting?

Start with a brief introduction of who you are and what you do, quickly share your value proposition, ask relevant questions to understand the other person's needs and interests, and identify next steps if there is a potential match. Keep your pitch concise, five minutes maximum, to make sure you have enough time for discussion afterward.

What should I do after a Lightning Rounds event?

Review your notes, send a personalized follow-up email with your executive summary and pitch deck attached to each person you met, reiterate key points from your conversation, and propose a plan for further discussion if applicable. Ideally, follow up within 24 to 48 hours while the meeting is still fresh in both parties' minds.

What are some etiquette tips for Lightning Rounds?

Be punctual, stick to the time limits to respect all participants, listen actively, avoid dominating the conversation, and be clear and concise in your communication.

Is there a fee for startups to attend Lightning Rounds events?

No. Participation is free for both startups and insurance partners.
