About Michigan Founders Fund Pre-Accelerator

  • 7 Weeks Program Length
  • $15,000 Grant Per Founder
  • Free & No Equity Cost To Founders
  • Hybrid Virtual & In-Person

With cohorts occurring in both Detroit and Kalamazoo, Michigan Founders Fund Pre-Accelerator Powered by gener8tor (MFFPA) is a free, seven-week, no-equity accelerator delivered in a virtual and in-person (hybrid) format. MFFPA provides startup founders with operating grants as well as personalized coaching and programming alongside access to a robust network of mentors, customers, and investors. The program is designed to set a path for startups to participate in equity-based accelerator programs and investment opportunities.

Michigan Founders Fund and gener8tor will recruit startups for this gBETA-level accelerator that are led by underrepresented founders. The Detroit cohort is open to founders located in Southeast Michigan; the Kalamazoo cohort is open to founders located in Southwest Michigan. This hybrid accelerator is focused on technology and/or tech-enabled companies and will consider applications across those categories. It follows the curriculum of gener8tor's global pre-accelerator gBETA and includes direct funding grants of $15,000 for each founder and a built-in mentor network from Michigan Founders Fund.

Participating companies receive:

  • Direct funding grants of $15,000 from MFF
  • Individualized coaching and mentorship from both teams of nationally renowned accelerator gener8tor and locally grounded Michigan Founders Fund on company growth and investor readiness
  • Weekly “Lunch & Learns” and “Mentor Swarms”
  • Investor and accelerator pitches
  • $1M+ in deals and perks from vendors like IBM Cloud, Rackspace, Amazon, Paypal, Zendesk, Hubspot and Microsoft
  • Ongoing post-program support, community involvement, and offerings from both gener8tor and Michigan Founders Fund

MFFPA’s goal is that graduates will go on to participate in an investment accelerator or raise a seed round. You can see gBETA’s overall progress against these goals here.
