The Bed Sheet That’s Changing the Hospitality Game

For housekeepers across the U.S., making a bed can be deceptively exhausting. Hours of lifting mattresses and smoothing sheets add up, taking a physical toll on staff and slowing hotel operations. NEET SHEETS, an innovative bedding solution, is changing that, cutting bed-making time in half and reducing mattress lifting by 75%.

The story begins with Ruth Young-Loaeza, a former housekeeper whose hands-on experience shaped every stitch. After making more than 20,000 beds, Ruth knew the frustrations of her profession deeply. A car accident in 2013 left her temporarily unable to work, but it also gave her time to innovate. While recovering, she sketched ideas and built prototypes, determined to solve a problem she had lived with daily. One weekend, after struggling with a sheet that wouldn’t stay on the mattress in her new home, Ruth had her breakthrough: a sheet that worked perfectly the first time. That prototype became the foundation for NEET SHEETS.

Ruth’s entrepreneurial path took a decisive turn when she was recruited to Alabama through the Sweet Home Alabama program, which included housing and a spot in gBETA Huntsville, powered by gener8tor. What started as a temporary stay became her home. “I was going to go back to San Diego, but I realized what I really needed was here in Alabama,” Ruth said. “I’m surrounded by an incredible ecosystem where everything — connections to industry, innovation and legal guidance — is within reach. Because of the advice and support I’ve received here, I’ve been able to move so much faster.”

Through gBETA Huntsville, Ruth refined NEET SHEETS’ product strategy, developed her investor pitch and navigated early-stage manufacturing and patent hurdles. The accelerator’s mentorship connected her with industry advisors and helped position her company for major investment opportunities. Her preparation paid off: in 2025, Ruth won first place at the “Meet the Drapers” Pitch Competition, winning $250K from Draper Associates. Judges were so impressed by her solution that she was invited to pitch on live TV in Hollywood.

Since then, NEET SHEETS has continued to grow. Ruth holds 10 patents in the U.S. and internationally, and her bedsheets are now in six hotels that first believed in her vision. The company’s trajectory reflects not just Ruth’s ingenuity, but also the strength of Alabama’s startup ecosystem, where programs like gBETA and organizations like Innovate Alabama help founders scale confidently.

Ruth has proven that solving real-world problems with creativity, persistence and the right support can transform an industry. “Alabama has everything we need to build something extraordinary,” she said. “The talent, the energy and the way people care about your success — it’s unlike anywhere else.”
