gener8tor Founder Series Spotlight: Abi Barnes, Amulet

In this episode, we’re featuring Abi Barnes, Founder and CEO of Amulet, a Madison headquartered food safety technology company developing portable electrochemical devices to detect contaminants and allergens across the food supply chain. Inspired by her own life threatening food allergies, Abi founded Amulet to help make the food system safer. The company now operates commercially as Amulet Scientific and is piloting with leading national food companies.

Abi went through gener8tor’s Madison accelerator in 2015 while finishing law school. The experience provided a strong sense of founder community and ongoing access to gener8tor’s leadership team, helping her build confidence during a challenging stage of building the company.

Since completing the program, Amulet has raised over $11 million to develop its technology, is piloting with major food brands, recently closed an insider round, and plans to raise again in the coming months.

Abi’s Insight

“An accelerator can help you quickly vet an idea and see if it’s worth pursuing. This is hard, and you want to make sure it’s something worth building.”

Abi’s Ask

Abi is looking for introductions to food manufacturers and companies seeking more portable, on site testing solutions to strengthen quality control and contaminant detection.

Abi’s journey reflects how lived experience can spark innovation with global implications. From law school and accelerator days to raising capital and commercial pilots, her path underscores the importance of resilience, community, and building technology that solves real world problems at scale.
