Building Opportunity Through Partnership: A gener8tor Skills Conversation with Jennifer Roller

In this episode of our gener8tor Skills Impact Series, Anne Nadel sat down with Jennifer Roller, President of The Raymond John Wean Foundation, to discuss the role collaboration plays in creating meaningful workforce opportunities and supporting economic mobility across communities.

Based in Warren, Ohio, The Raymond John Wean Foundation focuses on community revitalization, educational opportunity, economic opportunity, and civic leadership throughout Warren and Youngstown. Through the foundation’s commitment to equity, capacity building, and long term community investment, Jennifer has spent years working alongside organizations that help residents access new opportunities and strengthen their career pathways.

Jennifer shared how her connection to gener8tor began through a relationship with gener8tor Associate Vice President Tia Towles and evolved into a partnership centered on expanding workforce opportunities. What stood out most was gener8tor’s holistic approach to workforce development, combining skills training, coaching, mentorship, employer connections, and ongoing support to help individuals move forward with confidence.

Throughout the conversation, Jennifer reflected on the importance of relationship building, trust, and collaboration in creating lasting impact. She emphasized that workforce development is most effective when organizations work together to meet both individual and community needs.

A few highlights from the conversation:

  • Relationship building is the foundation of meaningful community impact and successful partnerships.

  • Workforce development is strongest when coaching, mentorship, skills training, and employer engagement work together.

  • Meaningful outcomes require both direct service and intentional tracking, goal setting, and accountability.

  • Professional networks and mentorship often create opportunities that extend far beyond a single program experience.

  • Employers, funders, community organizations, and workforce partners all have a role to play in advancing economic mobility.

Jennifer also highlighted the value of staying connected with participants beyond formal programming. Through gener8tor’s Lightning Rounds and mentorship opportunities, she has continued conversations with participants, helping expand professional networks and create new connections that support career growth.

Her message was clear: workforce solutions are strongest when communities come together, collaborate, and stay committed to the work.
